Sofía Rubio: Pastrana photographer extraordinaire

We talk to Sofía Rubio, a wedding photographer living in Pastrana.

We begin by asking her to describe her style of wedding photography.

“I love to capture moments of spontaneity. Although of course I will take posed photos at the bride and groom’s request, I prefer to record the wedding in a more relaxed way. I spend my time studying people as they move naturally and take photos of gestures that I like. Another important element is to focus on the details that make each wedding unique.”

How does living in such a beautiful village inspire your art?

“Pastrana is such a poetic village; you live amongst monasteries, a palace, a medieval wall, as if you’ve stepped out of a fairy tale.  You can feel its history dating back centuries.  It is perfect for wedding photography because there are so many romantic backdrops to choose from.  Where else can you combine the Golden Age with modern design?”

In a world where we are bombarded with images, how do you differentiate yourself?

“My photos are natural, unlike anything generated or modified with artificial intelligence.  I work hard to capture special moments and I have a good understanding of how to use light to best effect. I aim to produce beautiful and original photographs and I pay attention to all the guests; if you are a guest of the bride and groom then you are someone special for them.”

Pastrana has two view points which offer wonderful panoramic views of the village. Personally, which would be your favourite backdrop for a photograph of bride and groom?

“For a background of the village, I love the view from the San Agustín hermitage.  The Lover’s Fountain is slightly further out, but for couples looking for scenery typical of this beautiful Alcarria area, it is perfect. Then, for a backdrop of an old building, I would choose the Convent of Carmen.”
