OUR VILLAGE
Nestled in a beautiful valley surrounded by hills, Pastrana is a village loved by the Spanish, but undiscovered by foreign tourists. It is situated in the Alcarria, a region famous for its olive trees, aromatic plants and exceptional olive oil and honey. The village sheep herders still pass through the valley daily, their flocks grazing on the wild rosemary that surrounds the village, and the noise of their bells and bleats of their young is as familiar as the chime of the church clock.
In 2021 Pastrana achieved the highly sought-after status of ‘Pueblos más bonitos’, officially ranking it amongst the hundred or so most beautiful villages in Spain. Clear blue skies are common from spring to autumn, with warm temperatures and infrequent rain.
The heart of this medieval village is its main square, bordered by picturesque houses on two sides and the Ducal Palace on the third, leaving the fourth open to marvellous views over the valley of the Arlés river. The historic quarter of Pastrana is listed as being of special architectural interest on a national level; its cultural heritage route will take you past three convents, a collegiate church, three palaces and the remains of the medieval walls. As you stroll through Pastrana’s narrow cobbled streets, barely marked by the passage of time, you too will fall in love with our village.
